GROW became a 501(c)(3) corporation, a legal entity, in June of 1999. GROW is a grass roots organization formed by Master Gardeners (volunteers trained by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension Service to share horticulture knowledge) which has expanded to include people throughout the community. GROW has no paid staff. Volunteers accomplish everything. The monetary value of services, goods, or money donated to GROW is deductible from your income taxes. Please consult an accountant for the exact procedure. As a 501(c)(3) corporation GROW may accept and accumulate donations as well as apply for and accept grants to complete a specific project or for operating expenses. Non-profit status gives GROW more credibility in discussions with other organizations and governmental bodies.
