supporting education

In 2016, Grow Inc clients directly supported the salaries of four full-time teachers at barrio planta project, grow inc's partner charity.

Since 2012, Nicaragua has been experiencing a tourism boom, with almost 1.4 million international tourists entering the country in 2015. With its beautiful beaches, untouched jungles, and relative affordability, Nicaragua is becoming a haven for adventure seekers and tourists of all types. However, Nicaragua is still the second poorest country in Latin America.

Tourism growth can increase economic diversity in a region, attracting new visitors, businesses, and revenue sources, but it can also create challenges for long-term residents. Recognizing this, each Grow Inc trip incorporates cultural exchange activities that connect guests to local educational initiatives, and help organizations leverage the growth in tourism to create opportunities for community members of San Juan del Sur and Escamequita.

The Barrio Planta Project (BPP) is Grow Inc’s partner charity, with two locations in Nicaragua and a third coming to Mexico in 2018. BPP offers free classes to students age 4-18 years old in English, computers, entrepreneurship, and the arts - instilling creativity, enhancing confidence, and facilitating international communication. To put your impact into perspective, a family of four that participates in BPP programming for three half-days, supports one month of a teacher’s salary.

I came to SJDS for the beaches and the beauty, but I found a task force of individuals making a difference in the world.
